LIVE FROM THE LEGENDARY WESTLAKE STUDIOS, THIS ROOM IS WHERE THE MICHAEL JACKSON BAD ALBUM WAS RECORDED.
CRANK THOSE HITS OUT
Yo JD hit me up on da twitter brah I’m in LA gettin it in!! West lakes is a dope studio, whats ur fav place to work out of LA? Larrabee, Chalice or Record plant?
Wow…..I would love to see that one day.
I hoped you soaked all that in.
That big ass board and people are doing the mixing with a mouse LOL…. That looks like an Analog board. They still got 2 inch reels in there or straight protools? When I go back to LA I’m going to have to check that out.
I will debate this one all day, 2 inch will always sound better then protools and will have more bottom. Just like Vinyl will always sound better then CD’s.
So after reading this post, I have spent the last two hours reading about Michael Jackson. I did a search for WestLake Studios and found out in the A room is where they recorded Thiller. So then I started reading articles about Bruce the engineer working on the Thriller album and the different machines used at the time. Dude goes over the mics, mic pres, drum machines and everything used to make an album that sold over 110 million copies.
A fact I didn’t know about. Micheal recorded Thriller in the dark!! Wowwwww
loving that picture
ain’t nothing else like a Tom Hidley room
no guess work on the mixdown…it is what it is
MAKE ME PROUD…GREAT THINGS HAVE COME OUT OF THERE!!!! “Y’ALL NO WHAT THIS IS!!!!
Man I hope and pray I can get in there one day and crank a hit out similar to the King. Is that the same room where Thriller was recorded? I have a pic of when Thriller was recorded and it looks similar just up-to-date. I see ya with the Mac too…
Have a safe & productive trip..
Amazing i wish i could get up in there i wouldn’t know what was what. But JD im such a fan of yours and you just keep doing things that amaze me keep it up and Blessings to you and yours.
@ spock didn’t know Mike did that did Thriller in the Dark!! pure Genius!!
As much as we all kinda mixing in the box these days I do love the sound of of the ssl neve boards cant beat it!
And they said Mike was never late to the studio and never used a sheet of paper in the booth, he would memorize all the songs and parts before he came. Man this is the reason why I stopped selling studio time, jokers would come to the studio and I would have to sit their as they do take after take because they didn’t know THEIR own song that they wrote!! SAD
When everybody brings their best the product is the best.
MJ recorded his own heart beat for the beginning of Smooth Criminal.
analog.. the best
