HEAVY WEIGHTS

I SEE SO MANY DIFFERENT COMMENTS ABOUT THIS HEAVY WEIGHT THING I THOUGHT I WOULD BREAK IT DOWN TO SHOW YOU MY MINDSET. BUT I’M GONNA USE R&B FOR MY EXAMPLE. HOW I DECIDE A CLASSIC IS I PUT THE ALBUM UP AGAINST 1 THE WORLD CLAIMS CLASSIC. SO WITH THAT BEING SAID BOBBY BROWN – ALBUM (DON’T BE CRUEL) HANDS DOWN CLASSIC. THEN I SAY USHER – ALBUM (CONFESSIONS) CLASSIC. THEN THE ARGUMENT BECOMES IS USHER’S ALBUM POUND FOR POUND AS GOOD AS DON’T BE CRUEL? SO WE GO THRU THE SINGLES

DON’T BE CRUEL
1.DON’T BE CRUEL
2.MY PREROGATIVE
3.EVERY LITTLE STEP
4.RONI
5.ROCK WIT’CHA

CONFESSIONS
1.YEAH
2.CONFESSIONS II
3.LET IT BURN
4.MY BOO
5.CAUGHT UP

NOW THE THING TO ME KEY PART (TO ME) THAT MAKES CONFESSIONS A CLASSIC BESIDES THE SINGLES GOING POUND FOR POUND WAS THE RIGHT HOOK BAD GIRL THAT BOBBY DIDN’T HAVE
WHATS YOUR THOUGHTS?

USE THIS METHOD FOR THE RAPPERS AND SEE IF YOUR ANSWERS ARE DIFFERENT

  1. I’d say Don’t Be Cruel was a classic, for it’s day, and should be listed. But Confessions is on another level. Like you listed, for the singles alone, Confessions gets down and dirty, and puts a chokehold on it’s competition. I think the singles on Don’t Be Cruel was it’s strongest point. Where on Usher’s, he still had non-released tracks that was crazy, too!

  2. This should change it up a little but comparing Bobby Brown’s album to Usher??? Bobby Browns album changed the game. You talking about LA Ried and Babyface at their production peak at that time. And Teddy bring in that New New Jack sound. That album changed the whole way we viewed R&B… Usher album was a great album, but historically speaking, it was not a GAME CHANGER like Bobby’s was…

But for the rappers this is a great way to comparre. Which albums changed the GAME? When Timberland and Allayia came out with “One in a million” they changed the whole game, every nigga changed their drum programing after hearing that song!! I still suggest that you put up a poll so people can vote, you would be able to see more accarate data AND the polls program is free, just google it.

  3. OK, I’d have to say that 8701 was better than Confessions in my opinion. But 2 classic R&B albums where none of the songs sucked has got to be:

    1. Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
    2. Writings on the Wall

If I had a 3rd choice I’d go with 8701, something about that album, might be the memories from school days or something but that album was/is amazing. Then any of Brandy’s records will cover the rest of the list! Love me some B-Rocka!

R&B live on, please don’t die!

  4. PEOPLE VIEW CLASSIC ALBUMS IN DIFFERENT WAYS, SOME LIKE SPOCK SAY “GAME CHANGING”, OTHERS LIKE USHER’S CONFESSIONS WAS A CLASSIC BUT NOT GAME CHANGING..
NOW MY QUESTION IS THIS, DOES IT MEAN USHERS ALBUM OR USHER HIMSELF IS LESS OF A HEAVY WEIGHT BECAUSE HE DIDNT HAVE A GAME CHANGING ALBUM???

JD,OCEANS,SPOCK & LIFERS LET ME KNOW YOUR ANS?????

  5. Teddy Riley was/is a major influence, but so is JD, Timbo, Diddy and the rest. I think that ‘game changing’ albums are albums that come around once in a decade, they are influential for that period of time and then someone else comes along. Its all about setting trends, we have Polow/Stargate/etc that seem to produce everything we hear on the radio today.

I believe that Usher set the tone for male R&B artists by recording a handful of successful records. Therefore, maybe he did in fact have a ‘game changing’ album for contemporary R&B.

  6. I agree with to say these two albums are classics. Bobby Brown on had about 10-12 songs if my memory serves me correct. That album came out when I was like 6 or 7 and when those songs get played here in B-More we go off when that shit comes on! Now, for Usher I agree Confessions is a classic because even Want You Back was a song that could have been a single. I even think Seduction was dope too. I have bought the deluxe version at least twice. I played that CD for like a year straight. If chicks and niggas buy your shit you caught one in a good way.

To be honest Usher’s last CD is the most slept on CD he’s ever made. Point being that album is comparable to Kingdom Come. All the shit Hov talked about like watches, hotels, islands, and fashion niggas are just getting hip to it in 09′ he was talking about trends that are poppin now back in 06′. Just like these dumb ass broads keep saying Usher needs to make another album like Confessions. No he does not. He just set a standard that your album is wack if it ain’t that good. An artist that sounds different or implements a new sound every album is destined for longevity. Def Jam fucked up because last year was Usher’s and they went with Chris Brown. I swear he damn near could have had a single for every song. No video for Here I Stand but, that’s okay cause that was me and my wife’s wedding song in December. Keep it up JD fuck these wack ass niggas opinions. A classic can be defined as 5 songs within a body of music.

  7. WELL FOR THIS EXAMPLE IMMA HAVE 2 AGREE WITH U JD…..BROWN’S ‘DON’T BE CRUEL’ SET THE TONE FOR IT ALL AND USHER’S ‘CONFESSIONS’ CAPITALIZE YEARS LATER. BUT U MAKE A VALID POINT ON THAT ONE.

WELL FOR ME IMMA USE RAP N R&B FOR THIS ONE:

    FOR RAP:

    ALL EYEZ ON ME:

    ALL ABOUT U
    HOW DO U WANT IT
    I AIN’T MAD AT CHA
    CALIFORNIA LOVE
    2 OF AMERIKAZ MOST WANTED

    COUNTRY GRAMMAR:

    COUNTRY GRAMMAR
    RIDE WIT ME
    E.I.
    BATTER UP

    FOR R&B:

    MY WAY:

    YOU MAKE ME WANNA
    NICE & SLOW
    MY WAY
    SLOW JAM

    COOL RELAX:

    ARE U STILL DOWN
    THEY DON’T KNOW
    I DO

IN COMPARISON WITH ALL EYEZ ON ME N COUNTRY GRAMMAR, 2PAC SPOKE THROUGH HIS VISIONS AND WHAT HE SAW, INCLUDING HOW HE WOULD IMPACT THE WORLD WHEN HE IS GONE. PLUS, HIS FLOW CANNOT BE TOUCHED. FOR NELLY, IT WAS HIS BREAKOUT POINT AND HE CAME STRONG IN HIS VERSATILE VERSES WITH HIS CREW N ALL. IT WAS SOLID AND CAREFULLY CRAFTED, NOT SLOPPY N RUSHED.

IN COMPARISON WITH MY WAY N COOL RELAX, USHER’S START TO THE TOP WAS SYMBOLIZED IN THE ‘MY WAY’ ALBUM. IT HAS IT’S MOMENTS OF EXPRESSION AND CLARITY OF EMOTION, WHICH IS USHER’S STYLE, AND IT CANNOT B IMITATED, ESPECIALLY HIS VOICE. FOR JON B.’S ‘COOL RELAX’ ALBUM, IT IS SOMEWHAT SIMILAR 2 USHER, BUT JON B.’S SHINING MOMENT WAS IN THIS ALBUM, BECAUSE HE HAD THAT SOOTHING VOICE THAT WOULD MAKE THAT ROMANTIC MOMENT SEEM LIKE A LIFETIME. BOTH ARTISTS ARE THE ABSOLUTE BEST AND THERE’S NO DENYING THAT.

NOW FOR JD, WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS OPINION???? JUST THOUGHT I ASK FOR SUM FEEDBACK. LOOK FORWARD 2 HEARING ABOUT IT ON THE NEXT ‘LIVING THE LIFE’. AND THANX 4 TAKING THE TIME TO PEEP THIS OUT.

  8. for me, a classic album is an album that was untouchable when it was released . For example, MC’s Emancipation of Mimi. If you hear any of the many singles (thanks JD!) off that album in a club, on the radio etc it brings back emotions from ’05. For me, that makes it a classic, I dont remember any other release when I think of ’05. Same as Confessions in ’04. I dont feel a classic has to change the game etc, it just has to stand out. Life After Death didnt change anything, it was a continuation of Ready to Die but there is not one song on there that wouldnt have been a smash on the radio, not one. Every song on that album was hotter than 95% of what is released today. Now there does have to be a standard to which albums that were hot at the time of release have to live up to (this is why we’re doing this Weight Class stuff). For example, Carter III was the best rap album of ’08 but a classic? No. Compare that to Life After Death and there is no comparison. I feel like people give the “classic” status out too easily these days. Classic albums need to stand the test of time and it will be interesting in 5-10 years to see (or hear) which albums we will still be talking about. I dont think the time gets taken by the labels to craft a classic album, its always rushed and a botch job of the hottest producers at the time. But thats another topic and we’d be here all day talking about why the industry is in a mess.

  9. Another thing I look for to see if an album is classic is can you listen to the whole thing all the way through. If you have to skip more than 1 or 2 tracks max, then it is not a classic.

  10. Janet has 4 classic albums.
    CONTROL
    1.control
2.What have you done for me lately
    3.Pleasure Principle
    4. nasty
    5. When I think of you

    1.rhythm nation

    3. come back to me
    4. love will never do

    Janet.
    1.that’s the way love goes

    6.because of love

  11. I that r&b comparison bobby b album was fresh and new at the tyme and had a raw image no one was use to at the tyme, ushers confessions was sumthin the r&b game needed at the tyme and had single after single and turned into an instant classic album, as far as the hip hop heavyweights I gotta say I kno they came in as a group but outkast has one of the greatest albums evermade that being ATLiens top to bottom that shit is incredible

  12. I think that both these albulms are classics..However all of the singles can be compared equally as classic singles EXCEPT #4 Roni …was the shyt.. and Usher’s #4 My Boo doesnt measure up..other than that Confessions was a great albulm as was Dont Be Cruel…Also Bobby Brown was innovative with that cd..Usher is great but i feel like if there was no Bobby Brown then there would be no Usher..Such as if there was no Janet there would be no Aaliyah, Beyonce,,Ciara etc. U know? As far as any genre is concerned Classic albums are ones that CHANGE the game and Introduce a new feeling a new movement a new sound..

  13. I think Usher’s album is a classic too but if you want to really talk Usher, how many of yall have his first album the one that Puffy produced? That album is the most slept on ever album ever. You can put that CD in and roll to every song. Their is some great work by Al B Sure and lot of other producers. Yall should remember “Think of You” so I agree that both albums are classics but I just can’t see comparing the Don’t be Cruel album to My Way.. 2 Different levels… This might be a generational debate, but if you are in the 30 over crowd and was really around when Bobby was on top you will feel me.

JD did a great job on the album and really put Usher to superstar level but as far as JD’s best work, hands down it’s Xscape 2nd album “Off the Hook”. In my opinion that was JD’s peak performance. That album should be considered a classic also.

I never did buy Ushers last album because I hated that “Moving Mountains” record and if you look at the numbers the public agreed. So someone commented it was a great album, so I am going to go ahead and download it for free and check it out.. LOL If he has more then 4 good songs I’ll buy the album.

Janet is my girl and I am a fast learner on this site….EVERYTHING JANET HAS MADE IS A CLASSIC…
Yall ain’t getting on my ass about her again..:)

  14. @Charloetta… I AGREE WITH YOU!!

  15. @TONGADUDE A game changing album should be rated higher!! IT CHANGED THE GAME!!

  16. Confessions is a classic not only for bad girl but, superstar, can you handle it, thats what its made for, throwback. Man i NEVER skipped a song on confessions! Thats that must have road trip cd. It gets you from IL to Indy, EASILY. LOL

  17. JD AND OCEANS 7 ARE BEASTLY….

  18. your products page whilin out … “free mixtape $35”, “$100 Afroman doll for $7” … check that out JD

  19. I definitly think it should be based on a set of standards that can evaluate artist that are popular now…going back to your original formula of leaving dead niggas (RIP), and niggas that aint poppin out of the situation…

  20. Well, first we need to define what makes a classic album. In my opinion a classic album is when every song is worth listening to from the first to the last. Where songs that wasn’t released as a single sound just as good as the songs that was released. My classic albums are:

    Mary J. Blige’s What’s the 411? and My Life
Lauryn Hill The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
Destiny Child The Writings on the wall
    Beyonce Dangerously in Love
    Jay Z Reasonable Doubt Blueprint
    Usher Confessions
    R.Kelly 12 Play Chocolate Factory

  21. I feel as that ya’ll forgot about Scarface (The dairy) as well as (The Fix) CLASSIC & what about Outkast!!! Ya’ll always screaming Pac & Big,Big & Pac THEY ARE DEAD let them rest!!! Talk bout niggas that’s living!!! WAYNE IS NOT THE BAR..everyone does not listen to lil’wayne! You have Jezzy out here making good music,T.I. making good music,Rick Ross making good music, for all we know Universal could’ve BOUGHT them 1,000,000 copies the first week so wayne can look good on Billboard & Soundscan,THEY HAVE THE BILLIONS TO DO SO!!! He could’ve re-signed a contract for 5 or more albums plus publishing in exchange for no advance money but just to be the first EVER to sell a million copies in one week!!! So people would be like “HIS ALBUM MUST BE GOOD LET ME GO OUT & BUY IT & LABEL EXECS SAYING CHICKEN SHIT LIKE I NEED ME A LIL”WAYNE TYPE OF ARTIST”,with those sells numbers he can demand 100k a show for 6months to a year all over the world & 50k or more per feature!!! THIS GAME IS SOMKE AND MIRRORS LET’S STOP WITH ALL THIS,THIS GUY IS THE BAR CHICKEN SHIT. I dont listen to Bow wow but the singles the lil’nigga puts out but good shit and he dont sound ANYTHING like wayne! Wayne is good no doubt and he reps what I do and that’s the SOUTH but he’s not the bar,GOOD MUSIC IS GOOD MUSIC! U & I both know if U SPEAK IT enough people will believe it for example Puffy kept saying B.I.G. the best,B.I.G. the best,B.I.G. the best & some people bought into that..East Coast niggas did! This is what U can do make Bow wow drop a mixtape every month get him featured on all the hottest radio hits rather he spits a verse or just does the hook & in the mist of all that start blasting that he’s THE GREATEST POUND FOR POUND & stress the fact that he dropped 7 albums already & in a year or two when he drops his 8th album people will buy into what u said cause the public buys into all of what they see, as well as all of what they hear & that’s the TRUTH!!!

  22. @Brittany…I agree with you….OK HOMEWORK FOR THE LIFERS…Who was Manual Seal? What was his relationship to JD… Why did he leave and what is he doing now? Before their was the Oceans there was Manual Seal!! I know what they say in the industry here in Atlanta but I am just wondering what information is out there…

Look at the classic albums then look at the team of people working on them.. It takes a team people!! And just because you see a persons name on something taking the credit does not mean they are the person that really did the work.. All of these so called superstar producers should do just like JD and show themselves in the studio making beats.. I would love to see Dr start from beginning to end, picking the beat and paying the real producer for it; whatever he does!! LOL

I got another one for yall.. Who really produced CREEP by TLC? Was is really Dallas Austin? Look up a producer by the name of Sol Messiah…..He is one of my boys so I know the real story. The nigga is dope too.

    Spock

  23. Shouldn’t classic be something that has with stand the span of time and is still regarded as something that holds the same or more value then when it was created?

  24. @ Spock i totally agree with you man , both albums are good but bobby’s shit is on a whole different level. You can play that album now and that shit still hits hard, it was just one of them smooth albums made back in the day when R&B was real smooth, something you could mack to. Also i gotta question spock you seem to know alot about the music industry, im 19 and been Djing and writing songs for a while and im just starting to get into producing, what would you suggest i do to get the names of all the famous producers, managers, and niggas that was doing the major deals back in the day . I have over 3,000 songs on my itunes but as far as info wise its hard to find that shit, cuz itunes just has the basic stuff. Its amazing to me how many so called “producers” that are in their minds in the game cuz they got pro tools and a midi keyboard dont even know any classic hip-hop & R&B. Anyways man you seem like a dude with alot of knowledge about the game so im just tryna learn all i can. PEACE

  25. @ Spock again i searched manuel seal on wikipedia. Basically what i got from reading the article was that he was a major reason for usher’s SUCCESS co-writing and producing some of his biggest hits like nice & slow, you make me wana, my boo and a couple of mary’s joints. The article also statesd that he was a staff songwritier that was signed to so-so def so im assuming he doesnt own any publishing, or any other rights since im guessing that the contract was on a work for hire basis. But it didnt say anything about him leaving and why.

  26. Its a great debate but no comparison music to me what mood you in just don’t play bullshit one you might want bobby next day it will be usher don’t matter what year classic albums are timeless.

  27. The album that caught my attention the most in the 80’s was Don’t Be Cruel by Bobby Brown.. It was so dope that I actually stole the record from my Aunt. LOL .. As for Confessions, IMO it’s definitely the best R&B album this decade but Don’t Be Cruel is on a different level.

I agree with the people above me. Pretty much every Janet Jackson album can be considered a classic. Also, I nominate 12 Play by R. Kelly..It was so good it changed the way people danced! I remember when people would be doing the kid n play, running man, pee wee herman, etc. and then after ‘Bump N Grind’ dropped, it was a wrap on those dances.

One of my favorites is 112’s first CD.. It may not be considered a classic but Puff put together a CD that when I play it my shawty’s vicki secrets drop instantly!..Also, ‘The Show, The After Party, The Hotel’ by Jodeci still gets play in my crib. I believe that Jodeci album was the first time I ever heard of Timbaland/Missy and I was blown away.

As for most slept on R&B albums, I have to give it up to the 90’s group, Intro. Their self titled album is one of the few albums that I do not skip a song.

  28. @Supreme_Hustle… Join me my brother, all you have to do is be hungry and Im fucking with you. You don’t have to have sold millions of records to fuck with Spock, just be hungry. If you look back in history you will see that the king owned all the land and had the people starving. When enough hungry people got together, they killed the king and took over the land. If you get enough hungry people together behind one cause, the niggas on top can easily be taken down.

Because I concentrated on my education FIRST before my music, I have been blessed enough to meet a lot of the people in the music business here in Atlanta, but have never really taken advantage of all of that knowledge. I guess timing is everything cause now I am ready and now I am building my team to take over. People like Puffy are stand outs in the music business because that brother clearly takes advantage of every opportunity and knows how to market himself. The funny thing about Puffy is that he was more then likely the same way now as he was at Howard but no body got to see him then. I want to show the world how prepared you have to be BEFORE you get on to get on.

I am just like you at the bottom and when you are at the buttom you have no where else to go but up. My heart is that of a lion combined with the fact that I have been working in corporate America long enough to understand how businesses work. You can know a lot of people in the industry and really it doesn’t matter. It’s not who you know but who know that will help you. I hear people name dropping all the time, I just laugh, ok you know that person but are they going to help you? That is why this internet shit is so important, because now you can take it right to the streets. The internet IS the streets.

Email me at [email protected] and whatever information that I have that you can benefit from it’s yours!!

ALL THE LIFERS THAT HAVE BEEN REJECTED COME WITH ME.. I SHALL TAKE THE SICK, THE HUNGRY THE HOMELESS, ALL I ASK IS THAT YOU HAVE A VISION FOR YOURSELF AND A GREAT WORK ETHIC AND WE SHALL ONE DAY BE ON TOP!! LOL I CAN CUT ON TV AND SEE OTHER PEOPLE LIVING THE LIFE, LET’S HELP EACH OTHER LIVE THE LIFE.!!!

I GOT THIS SONG THAT IS GETTING A LOT OF RADIO PLAY IN MY HOMETOWN AUGUSTA GA, I AM GOING TO LET THE LIFERS TELL ME IF I SHOULD GET FULLY BEHIND IT!! IF ITS WACK PLEASE TELL ME BEFORE I SPEND MY MONEY!!

  30. Classic album of all time in my opinion was and still is “Thriller” If it wasn’t for “Thriller” I don’t think Bobby’s “Don’t be Cruel” or Usher’s “Confessions” would have ever existed. I love “Confessions” but out of the two I would have to go with “Don’t be Cruel” it takes the cake if your going to compare those two; great comparison by the way.
I couldn’t believe I didn’t see anyone bring up “Thriller” in this discussion. There have been a boat load of good R & B albums that have been released, but a classic album in my opinion, is an album where every song is the s***, and hands down every song on “Thriller” changed the game. Also what Michael and Teddy Riley did with the “Dangerous” album was pure genius. A classic is “Thriller” and I have yet to see any album that holds a candle to it.

  31. @Spock

Who are you now Moses? Leading the people to the promised land? lmaoooo yall are so funny to me. I been on the internet a long time and I have seen alot. Whew lawd that was my laugh for the night, I think I have dried my tears from missing out on winning 557k in the derby. FML!

  32. You hit it on the dot JD…I knew that’s what you meant. People need to look at the overall.

  33. DONT BE CRUEL WAS A LITTLE BETTER THAN CONFESSIONS,MY BOO WAS A RERELEASE AND CAUGHT UP IS ONE OF THE WORST SONGS ON THE ALBUM BUT USHER DID HAVE THAT’S WHAT IT’S MADE FOR AND SUPERSTAR

  34. Non-debatable CLASSIC Heavyweights:

    TLC- CrazySexyCool (14 million +)

    1. Creep
    2. Red Light Special
    3. Waterfalls
    4. Diggin On You
    5. Kick Your Game/Switch

No other group was touching them. THEN after a LONG ASS hiatus, they came back with

    TLC- FanMail (11 million +)

    1. Silly Ho
    2. No Scrubs
    3. I’m Good At Being Bad
    4. Unpretty

**Only 2 OFFICIAL singles, due to lack of promotion on LaFace’s part, yet and still, they killed the game once again, not only in R&B, but in Pop.

  35. Usher’s Confessions : DIAMOND STATUS and singles for days !!! It was critically acclaimed and no sign of filler tracks. Easily the best R&B album of the 2000’s. No album yet has come close to Confessions this decade. That is saying something. To be a classic, it doesn’t necessarily have to change the game but if it can reach certain criteria (sales, singles topping the charts) then yes, it can be stamped a ‘CLASSIC.’

+ who else has had 3 singles in the top 10 at one time? other than ush, it was the beatles and elvis. that’s some good company…

  36. @Kandi Girl you are funny….

CHECK THIS SONG OUT AND TELL ME IF IT’S WACK OR NOT… This is from my group “Them Concrete Boyz” it’s getting alot of radio play down in Augusta and is starting to get around.. Tell me what you think…

  37. Confessions was hot front start to end.

As far as classic albums again I would say its all about opinion.

I think Low end theory,Dah Shinin,Enta da stage and 93 til infinity are all overlooked albums that are 100 percent classic and have a very big influence to this day on hip hop music but that’s just my feeling on the convo.

  38. I think in ref to classic R&B albums. Bobby Brown Album came out first it is a instant classic from Start to finish. Ushers Confession is a modern day classic 4 a new generation. I do not think u can compare the 2 which one is better! I would not pick 1 bcuz I like them both. I think both artist with the producers n songwriters captured the essence of what they were going thur in the tymes that we were livin in. Both albums propelled both artist into who there r today!

  39. Dont Get it wrong cuz Bobby Brown was a good artist but that dude isn’t even in Usher’s Caliber… Usher is like right behind Micheal Jackson… Bobby in opinion is hell to the na…

  40. I COMPLETELY feel you JD! “Confessions” still gets played in the car and is in the center console to pop into the 6CD changer when I’m bout to hit the road. The “Confessions” album also had “That’s What It’s Made For”, “Can You Handle It” & “That’s What It’s Made For”…WHAAAAAAT? like that album seriously had that classic feel! you could put it in and listen to the CD the whole way through which isn’t that way for a lot of the newer artists, but that’s my opinion! Isn’t that Usher’s most successful album to date anyway? I just remember EVERY one having it, like every one of my friends had it in their car, in their house, and it was played all the way until the next summer! Bobby Brown’s joint was rocking though! Definitely my favorite album of his (Bobby’s). I’m tryna think how many R&B acts now days have classic albums and I’m only 22! I would rather listen to my mother’s old records, throw on a Donny Hathaway/Stevie Wonder/Marvin Gaye/Luther Vandross album and ride out then have to listen to some of the music @ the moment which is one of the reasons I’m WAITING PATIENTLY on this Johnta album because his tone, the quality of other singles he’s had, the swagger & smoothness that is his music and him, it all reminds me of quality R&B and music in general! -dfntnofalifer! Baltimore lifers stand up!

  41. I agree with you JD. I loved Don’t Be Cruel and Confessions. The right hook for me on Usher’s Confession was That’s What It’s Made For. That song made me think about how we all had a moment of weakness. Usher became real to me. Before he was a Michael Jackson impersonator. I love songs that portray real life, especially Urban Life. JD I’m a fan of Living the Life. I’m so glad that you decided to document your studio life. I was following B-Cox when he was documenting his studio life on youtube, but he stopped. I’m glad to see he’s still around making great music. I’m really excited that you are still in the game JD. You and Snoop say alot of things I’m thinking. I guess because we were born the same year, so we grew up on great music. This is why I respect you opinions and comments. Thanks for everything.

  42. Whats good J.D i think that whole heavywieght thing is such a good idea to maybe get alot of these ringtone and industry made rappers on there lyrical and style grind i feel like people dont get to really see the real heavywieghts because the larry holmes rappers are taking over the market taking all the subtance out of the game my thing is stay in your lane with whatever you do and and thats how shit can get back poppin the right way wayne is the bar like you said but his grind took atleast 5 years stong to get there and rappers these days dont wanna wieght that long to be the ali they rather sell out and be larry holmes for a one night thrill get what i mean. I rap also me and my partner leon willams from the clevland browns been focus since 10 and are willing to wait ten more just to get right and then take that crown

  43. Thats a fair system Confessions is hands down classic Usher could of at least released 3 more singles. Even the songs that people considered fillers would be singles on other artist albums. This is why when people try to compare these young guys to Ush it’s funny they might be able to dance but his vocal ability is crazy just check for the him on the Luther tribute album he knocked Superstar out.

  44. JD I understand what you are saying about classics but what about new talent. I know you are ready to put some new talent out. 45. Classic albums is cool and a great discussion but whatever happen to classic artist.
You know someone who can be relevant ten years down the road or someone who surprises you with talent unmatched by any tom dick and harry who can make a catchy hook.

Usher is a classic artist regardless of what single anyone liked on his album.

@SPOCK …LOL…I see your Christ like approach to helping out the rejected artist in this game but that’s a lot of folks because people get rejected everyday for some of the weirdest reasons.
I see you pushing to get heard in this business and that’s always a great thing too see for other hopefuls who wish to one day make a impact in the music arena.

The little guy who is willing to fight passionately for what he believes in is more of a force then the big guy who fights complacently for what he is trying to hold on to.

  46. BRAVO…. ‘nough said. 😀

“…..I love Lupe. He’s a genius writer. In his approach to making music and the depth of his lyrics, the guy is incredibly smart. I’m sure he goes over people’s heads, but I love him for that.”

(Sorry about the caps lock typing……again)
