Apple Admits to Apple Watch Tattoo Issue

HMM SO IM GUESSING IM GONNA HAVE THIS PROBLEM

After months of anticipation, a first shipment of the Apple Watch was finally delivered to customers last week and now first consumer tests are coming in. It turns out that the Apple Watch does not really work as it is supposed to when sitting on top of dark tattoos. More specifically, tattoos can negatively affect the Apple Watch heart rate sensor, which sits on the back of the watch. The watch has green LED lights and photodiode sensors on its back, which penetrate the skin and detect the changes in capillaries and blood vessels in order to measure the heart rate. The ink in darker tattoos can impact the absorption of both light and infrared, which then ends up effecting the measurements. If you have darker tattoos on your wrist, then you might want to reconsider buying an Apple Watch (or any other kind of wearable using the same technology, such as Fitbit’s Charge HR) or you might at least want to test it beforehand. Find out more about this issue now on the Apple website.
