Alvin Gentry to be named Pelicans Head coach

Warriors assistant coach Alvin Gentry will be the next head coach.  The New Orleans Pelicans surprised many when they fired head coach Monty Williams on May 12 after a playoff berth, but the vacancy is suddenly the NBA’s most desirable coaching job, with multiple coaches rumored to be on the team’s radar.

John Reid of NOLA.com reported on May 29 that the Pelicans were conducting a second interview with Gentry in New Orleans. On May 21, Reid spoke with a source who indicated Gentry is interested in the position:

He’s more than interested. He really believes that this is a job that would certainly define him as a coach because of the opportunity that it creates.

Certainly this is one of those jobs that you feel is probably as good as any job available right now, no question. Even if there were no other jobs, it would still be the best.
