Rock Paper Photo’s Rare Photography of Miles Davis and Other Icons

Rock Paper Photo, a curated online gallery has collaborated with the Miles Davis Estate to present exclusive photography of the legendary musician from the archives of Sony’s Columbia Records. Musical legend Miles Davis has been a renewed subject of conversation among jazz buffs with the release of Miles Davis at the Fillmore—Miles Davis 1970: The Bootleg Series VOL. 3 and the upcoming film Kill the Trumpet Player, starring Don Cheadle.

The collection features portraits of Davis recording with his quintet in the Columbia studios during the 1950s. Rock Paper Photo has added bold design touches, including typography inspired by the original album designs, quotes from Davis, color tints, and reproductions of the artist’s signature, to make them a collector’s item for diehard fans.

Co-founded in 2010 by Guy Oseary, Madonna’s business manager, and Live Nation Entertainment, the world’s largest producer and promoter of live music, Rock Paper Photo is now the world’s largest community of rare photography and pop culture fine art, specializing in largely unpublished, hand-signed limited edition prints of iconic artists and personalities. Oseary, a photographer and collector himself, founded the gallery in an effort to solve the obstacles he was encountering trying to locate and purchase fine art photography. Rock Paper Photo is based in New York, N.Y.

Due to its extensive photographic research and curation, Rock Paper Photo gives collectors and aficionados access to an extensive archive of over 100,000 photographs available for purchase. Limited- edition photography is available starting at $135 per print and a certificate of authenticity accompanies each hand-signed edition. All prints are produced to museum-quality standards and each design is available in a range of sizes and materials including brushed silver aluminum, plexiglass, and premium wood.

Rock Paper Photo’s newly enhanced website allows visitors to connect with their favorite artists, curate collections and engage with other fans and collectors as never before. Fans and aficionados can now discover rare, often unseen, photos that capture defining moments in pop culture. In addition to musical artists, the site also offers photographs of well-known performers from the stage and screen, sports figures, and icons from the arts and fashion—from actress Marilyn Monroe, baseball legend Jackie Robinson and artist Andy Warhol to model Grace Jones.

The revamped site will now offer an immersive social commerce component that chronicles the untold stories behind the images. The new portal provides photographers with tools to join the Rock Paper Photo community. It features an automated uploading tool that will enable aspiring as well as established photographers anywhere in the world to submit their photography for consideration. Once their work is accepted for the curated site, these emerging photographers will be able to sell their work to a global audience and connect with buyers seeking new work. This feature will also help Rock Paper Photo significantly grow the size and diversity of its online collections.

“At Rock Paper Photo we love to uncover rare and never-before-seen images that capture unforgettable moments in pop culture history,” says Mark Halpern, chief executive of Rock Paper Photo. “With that mind, our newly designed site will take fans and collectors on a journey of discovery of great photography. We’re also very excited about new tools for deepening engagement with the images in our collection such as the ‘My Collection‘ feature which enables registered visitors to create and share their personal favorites.”
