THIS IS VERY INTERESTING TO ME, WIL IS BARKING UP THE RIGHT TREE BUT MISSING THE MAIN INGREDIENT IN MY EYES, TO GET KIDS ATTENTION,SHIT GOTTA BE COOL, KIDS WANNA BE APART OF ANYTHING THAT LOOKS,SOUNDS AND FEELS COOL,YOU CANT KEEP THEM AWAY FROM IT IF IT IS,THIS IS THE FIRST THING I THINK ABOUT WHEN CREATING A ARTIST,THE REASON BOWWOW WAS BIGGER THAN EVERY OTHER KID ARTIST AT THAT TIME,WAS BECAUSE I MADE HIM COOLER,THE REASON WHY YOU DONT HEAR KIDS TALKING ABOUT RUNNING GOOGLE IS BECAUSE, 1 THEY NEVER SEE THE OWNER, 2 WHATS HIS COOL FACTOR,DOES HE HAVE THE ABILITY TO KEEP A 14 YEARS OLDS INTEREST, I HERD HIM SAY, HE WOULD RATHER GO TO A GOOGLE PARTY BEFORE INTERSCOPE,I WOULD’NT WANNA GO TO NEITHER, BECAUSE INTERSCOPE PARTY IS ONLY COOL BECAUSE OF WHO SHOWS UP,AND THE GOOGLE PARTY CAUSE HE’S NEVER BEEN,BUT I DIDN’T WRITE THIS TO BASH WIL, SO BEFORE ANYBODY TAKES THIS THE WRONG WAY, I THINK HE IS ON THE RIGHT PAGE BUT ITS OTHER THINGS THAT HAVE TO HAPPEN TO GET THE ATTENTION OF THE KIDS

  3. Okay…in listening further: He’s on the bench but he’s not in the game. I understand where he’s coming from but what about Akeelah and the Bee? It showed a girl determined to excell academically against all odds. My sons are learning Chinese in their everyday school curriculum and they’re only 6. I agree the morals and ethics have changed but its starts in the home regardless. Having a football field and some courts is recreation and health…I see nothing wrong with that. I think it really just starts with parenting. It’s up to the parents to let kids be kids yet discipline them and encourage them to focus on their education first. Also letting them know that they have options. More parents get involved the more the school will have to answer to their cries “pursay.” You have to go to the PTA meetings, board meetings, town meetings. But if he’s going to be the leader/pioneers in this it’s going to have to be connected with today’s interest and technology.

  4. will.i.am did say 16 mins. into the interview that things had to be cool to get kids attention. His explanation on how he would generate people’s interest in starting a US First program in his mother’s high school. Will says “… I realized the only way to get people’s attention is that things have got to be cool…”, he goes on to say that he started asking his friends in entertainment to perform and speak on the behalf of the program because kids would listen to someone they thought were cool.

  5. Yea your right he did.. but what I noticed is that he goes on further to say it shouldn’t be and why. He’s somewhat right but of course kids are going to be kids. Going to take alot of people with impact to turn that overnight…but Im all for it and its an awesome idea. Maybe if Kim Kardashian dates a “nerd” that’ll change things…lol

  8. I totally agree they put way too much emphasis on technology being faster instead of it benefit our children today. Always plan for the future but keep our children in mind when planing, make sure it benefit them.

    More Bill Gates are truely in demand im teaching my son now to write down his ideas and form them into something meaningful.
    We all can do something just gotta stop bitching, get creative and do it.

  10. That was an awesome discussion and quite frankly one i have all the time with my family. Will I am made some very valid point and offered tangible solutions on how to execute how the youth view their place in society. I for one can say that for a long time my dream was never to have a profession as a solid base to work from. Because I have looked up to moguls who appear to multitask in so many areas of business. But all of that came from them being a professional at something they had passion in. Just like JD’s profession is being a DJ that im sure was his bread and butter that allowed him to take the path towards other areas. But as a kid i always thought he was just a producer who had a illness that turned a record out! So kids today may know websites and technology are dope but they don’t know the programmer or engineer behind the scenes that makes it. But they know the celeb or the company that makes it cool to use it…

  11. I bow out to Will-i-am on this one. He held his position and his affection to equip our next generation to celebrate the man behind the scenes, the forgotten yet transcending. The speakers at the end are all mature and it got me thinking, I hope a younger audience was present and took something home. Technology per se is advancement and the pioneers are not getting recognition for changing the face of the world. Recognition of inventors drives motivation and the youths will have opportunities to believe in possibilities of being the next big inventor. I like that Will-i-am vouched to have acquired his diverse knowledge resource base from the web therefore technology is necessary in that sense. The youths have access to web technology but they need to use it wisely to impart themselves with wisdom. However, distractions to technology on the web see many visiting celebrity sites, gossip, adult entertainment and the like. It’s gotta start with self. Me. You. This resonates with not just American kids but those in the developing world too who don’t have technology but lack driving forces identified in this grill. Funny that I took home about …the Brazilians pride … I’ma take with me my own country’s flag wherever I go too. Change starts this way. The Black eyed pea sure has a ‘will’ like his name.
