  3. I agree with Sinatra. No drinking during the week except maybe with dinner. I hope the singles are on the way! Leggggooo!

  4. Loving the lyrical content of this song; I’m your biggest fan bruh. The lyrics are personal but are so relatable. Just my opinion but from what I can hear it’s not a single but definitely a song that would be on my iPod on repeat til I learn every lyric and can sing along. As an aspiring lyricist you are at the very least in the top 3 on my list of writers I look to be like on the Urban side–the list is different for Gospel/Inspirational music. You make me wanna write and step it up lyrically and vocally. Keep the music comin’ bruh. Ima be right here lookin out.

  5. Wow, Johnta can really sing. I can’t wait for the album.

  6. Aye J Sinatra. Yeaaaaah man! Let me be the first to tell ya if these snippets are any indication….Imma buy 2 copies. Keep working. I support good music and substance. LSR “Bible of Ballads”. The Content and production is flawless. I’ll be at the album release party my dude. LOL Wavy Baby.

Yall like twin brothers for different mothers when it come to this music. U should think about it yall can make that magic that the world been waiting on since Confessions. Lifer From Da Bama!

  10. I had the best dream about Johnta yesterday. I cant remember exactly what happened but I woke up feeling good. Maybe I was dreaming about the 1545. Whatever it was I was not trying to wake up and ended up being late for work, LMAO! And to think I didn’t used to like Johnta. SMDH, he won me over something awful.

Can’t wait to hear LSR, so I can conjure up some more dreams. lol

  18. YO JD! Don’t sleep on this song.

  19. OOOOOOOWEEEEEEEEEEEEEE…I’m loving that song!

  20. Yeah that first take was flat on that long note, that retake was better..Turn them Timpani sounds up in the background they are hot….Ok im not the one to hold back and I think Johnta is making some good music but I don’t see him as an artist yet…. I can’t wait to see the plan as far as the marketing.. Something is missing…… What do the women think? He reminds me of Lionel Richie… LOL What’s the image? Lover, bad boy, player, nerd, etc etc etc….. Back to the lab…..

YO JD…Question for you. When you sampled Maze on Can’t Hang on Escapes 2nd album how did you go around Frankie wanting to take all the publishing…. I just found out that Frankie took ALL the royalties from Rob Base back in the day!!! Wow….. I put all my Maze albums up!! And that’s ALL royalties from not only the song they sampled but for the whole album!!!

  21. oh yeah who the fat white boy in the background… He better not be security.. I thought that was Johnie at first im like damn he is going though a hard time….. If he is security im coming to southside and taking all yall shit….

    SPOCK

  22. I am fairly new to your site and so far I really like the “Talk to Me” segments. Med school keeps me in a bit of a bubble, so I didn’t know what you were talking about at first.

But just to answer your question, I wish I knew what was going on with guys these days! You’re right, they are positions of influence with vast financial opportunity- and they are F***ing off! We have people shooting themselves and going to jail! Seriously- how gangsta is that?!! I felt like with the investments of hip hop heavyweights such as yourself, Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, etc that many of these guys would see that the thug lifestyle was a means to an end (a legit hustle). Sadly its not. But the stupidity must end! I would just hate to see the conversation with the new cell mate. “So what are you in for?” Lol!

Thanks & I look forward to additional posts- and I liked Johntas’ song too =)

  23. In response to Spock, i’m not sure if JD “markets” the lover, bad boy, player, nerd, etc image for any of his artists. From what I see, he justs works on finding quality talent without all the gimmicks of “convincing” audiences his artists are something they’re not to sell or get spins. The music will speak for itself and what the fans draw from the vibe they get from the artist/music, they may draw speculations as to whether or not they have a certain appeal such as “nerd” for example.

**Yes, of course he “markets” his artists as far as branding their name, promoting their music and talent and advertising but I don’t see the gimmical image selling as some others.**

If you remember back when Mariah first was introduced to the mainstream, no one heavily tried to pursuade us that she is “Iconic” with acoustics out of this world. We saw her, listened to her music and ultimately fell in love with her music because of her talent and ultimately she became a superstar. In analyzing Johnta (from what i’ve observed) he seems to be himself, not attempting to display a certain type of image.

  24. @Gena

I don’t know what you are talking about, marketing is the business. I know a lot of dope songs out here that didn’t see the light of day because of the artist performing the songs. I was wondering why Johnta was trying to do the artist thing anyway instead to just finding a new young fresh face to bring in the game. But we shall see what happens when the record drops. Numbers don’t lie. There ain’t going to be too much shock value in a 35 year old NEW artist… LOL Today’s consumer is looking for something either Familiar (old school, something they grew up on) or something Fresh and NEW…. But this year I am going to show you more then I talk about it. Keep watching!!!

  25. @Spock,
I usually don’t agree with you, but I have to admit that I am also very eager to see how Johnta is marketed. I need the promotional tour to start sooner than later.
I see where Gena is coming from with her statement about it just being about the music, but honestly, these days, an artists public persona overrides his or her talent. Having the right publicist can get you places. (eg. Rihanna)

I need JD and SosoDef to get Dondria and Johnta a hard working publicist. They both already have the talent; the only thing lacking IMO, is a public presence.

People have heard and loved a song written by Johnta, but I don’t think many people (other than Lifers and music heads) can put a face to the name.
Get on radio, blogs, print, TV, Twitter…anything. Just get their names out there.

I want LSR and Dondria vs Phatfffat to do the BEST they can possibly be, but in order for that to happen, Dondria and Johnta need to hit the publicty circuit Heavy!!!

    PS @ Spock, Johnta is 29…not 35

  26. Sorry I diverted from the video with my last comment. I just want LSR to do exceptionally well
    .
I think this song should make the cut because it’s Johnta’s personal testimony. To me, this song is to Johnta, what ‘Still Standing’ is to Monica. Not many, including myself can ever say they had a loved one kill themselves infront of you- but we can all identify with pain and overcoming it.

Just like how most can identify with love and love lost (Johnta’s track). He is very private when it comes to his relationships and relationship status, so maybe sharing this part about his life will gives fans an insight to the artist they adore.

I LOVE the song! Can’t wait for the finished product!!!
