THIS YEAR I’VE HEARD THE WORD COUGAR USE MORE THAN EVER AND I’M WONDERING WHY? ABC EVEN HAS A SHOW CALLED COUGAR TOWN PREMIERING ON MY BIRTHDAY WHICH IS REALLY FUNNY BUT ANYWAY. I LIKE GETTING YOUNGER PEOPLES PERSPECTIVE ON OLDER PEOPLE ISSUES, THAT’S WHY TODAY’S TOPIC IS THE WORD COUGAR. THIS WORD AND THE FIRST “TALK TO ME” KINDA GO HAND AND HAND. I GOT ALOTTA COMMENTS FROM GIRLS SAYING THE CHASE BEING BETTER THAN THE BIG O WAS HOW MORE OLDER WOMEN FEEL YOUNG GIRLS WANNA CUT SOMETHING LOL. I NEED YALL TO HELP ME UNDERSTAND WHAT A COUGAR IS CAUSE I DON’T KNOW.

  6. I’m conflicted about this term a…I think a cougar is an older woman who “preys” on young men exclusively. You have older women like Demi Moore married to a younger man, Ashton Kutcher, but they seem to have real love so I don’t really see her as a cougar…But then you have…people like Frankie and Zo…So I don’t know…The word cougar sounds a little negative though like only the older woman is getting something out of the relationship. If the attraction is genuine, I don’t see anything wrong with an older woman dating a younger man. I think the cougar age range is something like if you are 7 or more years older than your man, you might be a cougar…

I will call it like I see it, the term or mindset of a cougar is an excuse or license for older women to act like younger women, or better yet to relive the past and fullfil desires and things not acheived in their past. I dont knock them, I see nothing wrong with older women, or older men dating younger men and women, however; there should still be accoutability, responsibility, and safety on the parts of the older generation to make wise choices. Society allows older women to be free in their choices in relationships, but frowns on older men who do the same thing. Why is that? That’s a different topic. So, to me cougar is synonymous with any term used for younger women that date freely and are not ashamed (for respectful purposes, I will not repeat these terms!).

  26. This term cougar gets on my nerves for some reason. I was just asking myself the same question last week. What constitutes a cougar–just being older? By two years? 10-120 years? Who made this term up and set the parameters for it? I think everyone understands that it means an older woman with a younger man, but my problem is that everyone is calling everyone a cougar. So now being older is 30s? Damn! What the heck is a 50, 60 year old woman–skeletor? And what is a man who dates younger women? There are more women than men in the world. Who is left for us to date, but younger guys–especially if ours are taken, in jail, on the dl, swirlin’ (which I don’t have a problem with at all), or just not interested. Plus, the term just makes it seem like it is all about the hunt and sex and not the genuine desire and love between a man and woman. Get yo’ cougar on ladies!

For some reason women tend to recieve these animistic names as though they are flattering. I don’t necessarily agree only because my cousin, who was guy, became sexually involved with his high school history teacher. They were together for several years.     Not sure what age would be considered a cougar but based on the perception I have seen I would think that a cougar is just an older woman being with a younger man. Demi and Ashtun comes to mind for me and the age difference is big enough to say older woman but it works for me because they look great together to me. I believe that the woman does not have to be an elderly woman to get the title just has to be older than her companion and then the opinions begin……..
